We are a family that really loves movies. If there is a new kids’ movie out chances are we are going to see it. Friday nights are called “Friday Family Movie Night” and we watch a kid friendly flick with big bowls of popcorn. As fans of Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 we couldn’t wait for the Minions movie to come out. I took my daughter to see it, my mom took my son to see it, and then I took both kids. How cute is Bob?! As soon as the movie was available I grabbed a copy and picked up snacks for our #MinionsMovieNight. I wanted to do something a little extra for the kids to celebrate the DVD release so I created a Minions Movie Night Lava Mocktail as a nod to Kevin’s “gear”. If you’ve seen the movie you know what I’m talking about…
Illumination Entertainment did such a great job with the story line for Minions © 2015 Universal Studios All rights reserved. Scarlet Overkill, voiced by Sandra Bullock, is my daughter’s favorite character. She has already decided she wants to be her for Halloween in two years. Not next year…in two years. She’s a planner. John Hamm is the voice of Herb Overkill, her groovy inventor husband…I think he is probably secretly my son’s favorite because he has all the neat gadgets. I’m not going to spoil in case you haven’t seen the movie yet but each minion gets their own special weapons. Kevin gets a lava gun so my drink was inspired by his hot gear.
This is a really easy drink to create and it’s pretty healthy too. I like to throw in something good for you with my cookies and candy 😉
The full printable recipe is below but I’ve included some photos to show how easy it is. This is all you need…
Puree strawberries, pineapple juice, Maraschino cherries, and cherry juice in a blender. Set aside.
Now blend banana, orange juice, coconut milk, and ice until smooth.
Pour into cups or glasses leaving room for the strawberry mix.
Slowly add strawberry mix.
Gently swirl.
I found a package of minion stickers and my little one decorated the glasses with them. I set out hot cinnamon candies because I think Scarlet would like them.
I added a few Maraschino cherries to look like blobs of lava.
Every movie night needs snacks! I found Minions movie candy at my local dollar store as well as teddy crackers. We call them Teddy Tims after Bob’s teddy bear, Tim.
This is a very easy #MinionsMovieNight set up. Doesn’t take much prep and the items are easy to find.
