We are big Dallas Cowboys fans in our house and even though it’s sometimes challenging and painful to be a fan we are never going to give up on our ‘Boys! I wanted to do something fun for opening day last month so I invited a couple friends over to cheer our Cowboys on. Sorry for the not so fab pics…these are from my phone because someone (>me<) forgot to charge my camera.
Food:
On game days I don’t want to be in the kitchen so I served:
- Buffalo Chicken Tenders
- Mini Stuffed Potatoes
- Caprese Bites
- Macaroni and Cheese Cups
- Cucumber Slices with Herbed Cream Cheese
- Salsa, Chips, & Guacamole (with homemade salsa and guac my friends brought!)
- Cake Pops from Roni’s Sugar Creations
- Cowboys Inspired Cookies from NatSweets
DIYs:
As far as parties go this was a minimal DIY event. I did make…
As far as parties go this was a minimal DIY event. I did make…
- Pom poms out of blue and silver fringe
- A referee looking backdrop out of black foam board and white duct tape
- Sparkle Sticks™ for the cake pops
- Printables: “Jason Juice” beer bottle labels, water bottle labels, straw flags, and food tents
- Glittered candles representing our favorite Cowboys players: Roger Staubach #12, Jason Witten #82, and Emmitt Smith #22
I also decorated a silver platter from Dollar Tree with silver and blue garland also from Dollar Tree. I just got really lucky that they had that garland left over from Hanukkah! With a few items from Michael’s I finished off the table and my fans were ready to eat! I had the silver star garland in my stash and I made the bling cake pop sticks to match the cake pops.
Even if you’re not a Dallas fan I hope you find some inspiration here for your own football party! FYI the macaroni cups were a *huge* hit with the kids and so easy my 11 year old can do it himself (with help from us taking it out of the oven). The cake pops were an especially big hit with my friend, Dr. Jim. He had never had one before and, much like my husband, was wondering where those little bites of Heaven had been all his life. Yes, even the big boys like cake pops! Those cookies…yum! Natasha of NatSweets nailed it and not being a Dallas fan herself embraced the star and channeled her inner Cowboy! I know I know…she’s really a Chargers fan at heart!
Co Cowboys! Enjoy!
